Two Studies in E minor
for Intermediate to Advanced Guitarists
The first of these two studies from Volume One of Once Around the Sun uses a one bar thematic motif that is the vehicle for a sad lament.
Familiar chord shapes and sounds and right hand harmonics prevail but in the second section, all gives way to smallish, dissonant chords that lead to a distinct, denser music. The da Capo return restates the theme before ending quitely.
The intro to the second piece features the twelfth fret 6th string harmonic to underpin the motif that provides the melody’s importance. The study focuses on the melody played through the length of the fingerboard accompanied by light counterpoint.
