Stellarium for Concert Guitarists

A Stellarium is a chart of the night sky. In this piece, arranged and expanded from music from Once Around the Sun, the chart is a sound map sketching the emotional, aesthetic and perceptual awareness of light, colour, distance and the imagined patterns we experience in dark sky gazing.

Contemplation of these tiny sky lanterns, appreciation of their beauty and the stillness of thought that comes with looking at the night sky, are here  paralleled within the time constraints of a musical soundscape. 

This music for advanced concert guitarists is episodic, interspersed with silence in an ambient that has no sound trajectory. Instead, the whole comprises motif, colour and  texture and the experience of casual time dictated by auditory events as representative of focused, smaller-field viewing of the night sky.
