Two Interludes
Suite for Solo Guitar
1. A simple pull-off-technique motif gives this piece its identity, being used with insistence throughout for both melodic and rhythmic purposes. It begins sparsely , acquiring energy and density, eventually filling the sound space and then losing momentum to return to the opening’s lighter treatment.
2. This works has its melodic “theme” nestled within the arpeggiated harmonic colours. This is achieved with accents so that the melodic line appears within, and as part of, the arpeggiated phrasing.
A few notes of this are later highlighted in rhythmic treatments (bars 73-79). The Adagio reaffirms the music’s character within a new harmonic and tempo context.
